This will be the last monthly phenology update, as I will be switching to weekly updates.
The reason?
Kids are back on the farm. The Farms for City Kids season has begun!!!
There was a lot of activity on the farm this month as the farm and animal geared up for kids.
As mentioned previously Cassidy and Aubrey were weaned and moved into the Heifer Barn.

Waffles and Wendy both gave birth to bull calves.
Astaire had twins on February 12th. One was a bull and the other a heifer, so she is considered a Free Martin (meaning there is an 85% change that she is sterile). Their names are Afro and Aphrodite.

On the 17th Fern gave birth to a bull calved named Fiddlehead.

Wonderland gave birth to a heifer calf, which our education staff member Sarah named Wink.

The week of February 20th we had a local kids camp and on their very first day they got the opportunity to watch Jumbolina give birth to a heifer calf. The kids named her Jelly.

The last calf born this month was Bruce (bull calf). His Dam is Bonnie.

Calves being born and added to the Small Animal Barn (SAB) has not been the only activity in the barn. Plum, Aubergine, and Huckleberry also weaned this week (meaning no more milk) officially turning into heifers. They will make the journey to the Heifer Barn (HB) on Monday.

Outside of the SAB, the weather warmed up quickly this last week, which meant it was time for sugaring!! The farmers went out into our sugar bushes and put taps (drilled holes and inserted the taps) in the trees along our sap lines and on the 22nd they boiled the first sap of the year into Maple Syrup.
